Crewe’s Free Beach Pop-Up This August
Crewe is getting its own beach this August Bank Holiday and everyone’s invited
This August Bank Holiday, the seaside is coming to Crewe town centre – and you won’t need a ticket, a train or even a pair of flip-flops to enjoy it.
From Saturday, August 23rd to Monday, August 25th, between 11am – 4pm, Lyceum Square will be home to Discover Crewe on Sea, a free, family-friendly pop-up beach with sand, a real beach hut and boat, deckchairs, buckets and spades, and plenty of hands-on fun for all ages.
There’ll be free craft workshops, live entertainment and a few surprises across the weekend, giving families something different to enjoy right in the centre of town.
Part of the Summer Festival of Fun
Discover Crewe on Sea is being funded by Crewe BID in partnership with Crewe Town Council as part of the Summer Festival of Fun, a town-wide programme of more than 180 free activities taking place during the school holidays.
From park sports and outdoor theatre to creative workshops and pop-ups, there’s lots happening in Crewe this summer.
The weekend also includes a seaside-themed trail linking Crewe’s three Business Improvement District zones:
- Nantwich Road, with its essential services and global flavours
- Grand Junction Retail Park, home to household-name retailers
- Crewe town centre, known for its independents, theatre and community events
Families can follow the trail to find painted buckets with hidden challenges and photo spots. There’ll also be opportunities for children to design ‘Postcards from Crewe’, celebrating the town’s lesser-known heritage, including the blue Owl Telescope and the world-famous Whitby Morrison ice cream vans.
Why it’s happening
Discover Crewe on Sea is about giving families something fun and free to enjoy without leaving town. It’s designed to bring people together, support local businesses and shine a light on everything the town centre has to offer.
“Discover Crewe on Sea is about bringing people into town and giving them something to enjoy. It shows what Crewe can do when we work together, and it gives businesses a real boost. We’re proud to be part of it.” – Graham Saunders, Chair of the Crewe BID board
