Local Students Create Poppy Tribute for Crewe BID Remembrance Project
A striking new display of poppies has appeared along Nantwich Road, created by Cheshire College South & West students as part of a Remembrance project with Crewe’s Business Improvement District (BID).
The BID funded materials for art and design students at the college’s Crewe campus, giving them the opportunity to create designs and apply them to large poppies purchased from the Royal British Legion.
The project sits within Discover Crewe, the public-facing brand of Crewe BID, which promotes the town centre, Nantwich Road and Grand Junction Retail Park through events, campaigns and seasonal activity that bring people together and support local business.
Crewe Town Centre Rangers installed the illustrated poppies along Nantwich Road ahead of this year’s Remembrance commemorations.
Graham Saunders, Chair of Crewe BID and General Manager of South Cheshire Glass, said: “Remembrance has always meant a lot to people in Crewe, and this display is a wonderful tribute from the next generation. The students have created something that brings art, respect and community together, and they should be really proud of what they’ve achieved.”
The poppies will remain on display throughout the Remembrance period as a visible sign of gratitude to those who have served. Crewe will mark Remembrance Sunday with its annual service and parade at Memorial Square, supported by the Royal British Legion Crewe Branch and local veterans’ groups.
